I hope everyone had a joyous Christmas and a Happy New Year!
In my family, one of our cherished Christmas traditions is watching the classic film It’s a Wonderful Life. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend watching the original version—not the abridged one on Amazon Prime! Every year, I’m reminded of the similarities between Bailey’s Building and Loan Association and our beloved St. Francis School.
The most striking similarity is the profound impact both have on their communities. With your support, St. Francis School continues to shape the faith and education of every student who walks through our doors. This influence, whether large or small, enhances not only our immediate community but also the communities our graduates go on to join.
Another connection I see is the generosity that sustains and uplifts both Bailey’s Building and Loan and St. Francis School. We are blessed by the continued support of our alumni, parishioners, parents, and extended community. This generosity is evident in efforts like the Father Tom Donaldson Vision Fund, the Gala, the Carnival, and Walk for Virtues—all of which play a vital role in our mission.
As I reflect on the movie, I’m struck by Clarence’s wise words to George: “Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. And when he isn’t around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?” This truth resonates deeply with our school. Every teacher, staff member, student, parent, grandparent, priest, and alumni of St. Francis School impacts countless lives, making an incredible difference.
Thank you all for being part of this wonderful journey. Your support, involvement, and faith ensure that St. Francis School continues to thrive and impact the lives of our students and beyond.
Wishing you blessings in the year ahead! Sincerely, Mark Matzek Principal, St. Francis School
